CAFÉ CRÈME I VÅR |
Great Musicians Make Timeless Music
This concert form had its premier at Dalhalla in 2003 with great promises of bringing great standards from jazz together under the same evening. Then we had vocalists Monica Borrfors, Claes Jonsson and Nils Landgren on stage. This concept works because the audience identifies with the music that is being played. It is a real treat to listen to great standards being played well, with each performer bringing a personal touch to the music being performed. This year’s edition of the concert proved to be a good follow-up, which happily had new fresh musicians bringing together new versions of great standards. The concerts opened with a well-known Louis Armstrong song “What a Wonderful World”. We are welcomed to an evening of good solid music. Among the classics are “Farfars vals”, which Svante Thuresson sang very well. Sharon Dyall sang the classic Billie Holliday song “God Bless the Child”. Louise Hoffsten offered her version of Ellington, too. I, unfortunately, cannot remember the Ellington song she performed, but she has did a great interpretation anyway. Pierre Swärd did a wonderful, fresh, tribute to Ray Charles with “Georgia on My Mind”. And, my favorte singer Viktoria Tolstoy sang some new songs from her new album. Oh and Sharon Dyall offered a nice dance number, and Pierre Swärd and Viktoria Tolstoy also sang a duet. This concert proves that great standards
from the older days of jazz and pop show no ending to improvisation and
influence for musicians young and old. I really had a great time listening
to the musicians, which included fine string arrangements. It also had
some great sound as well, thanks to the Park Brothers! With talents of
this high standard, I certainly hope this series will find new and fresh
ideas for next year. This concert also is a way to introduce younger audiences
to jazz. There is no question that the music offered here is timeless
when we have such great musical talents.
